Thanks for reading the 57th edition of my newsletter. This newsletter tracks my work on lumbar nerve root syndromes.
Hi everyone,
I’m pleased to say I’ve finished another zine - this one on the differential diagnosis of radicular pain.
As before, you can read it on your phone/laptop or print and fold it for the full experience!
This zine helps you to answer a common clinical question: “I think my patient probably has radicular pain/radiculopathy, but I’m not sure - what if it’s something else?” Everything is laid out in a simple and memorable way, and hopefully it’s fun to read, too!
(For anyone who missed the last zine on definitions of nerve root pain, you can still get one here - that one was a bit of an experiment, and this one is more polished and longer.)
In other news…
I’m pleased to announce the birth of our second child, Eve. She’s doing wonderfully. What a privilege it is to have her ❤️
Finally, a brief update on my work:
The ‘original’ sciatica book, on pathomechanisms, is still off the market while I re-write it and polish up the illustrations for a paperback version.
I’m joined in this work by Annina Schmid who has also contributed new passages - exciting!
If you already bought a copy of the book then I’ll be letting you know by email what changes are made so you don’t have to buy it again to find out (a common swindle in textbook publishing…)The Cauda Equina Syndrome book is getting some great feedback. I think we really achieved our aim with this one - a truly useful and practical companion to clinical practice.
We have recently had a few bulk orders for departments and a few orders for academic libraries too. Please reply to this email if you’d like to enquire about this.If this zine does well then I’ll do some more zines on spinal assessment - I think this is the perfect format for it. The next one would probably be on the neurological exam.
The all important book on treatment/management of sciatica is only crawling along, unfortunately. It might be some time before I can really focus on it. The good news is that I have a fantastic co-author for it, and I’ll announce her name in time…
Til next time,
Tom
