Grew up in Houston…. Spent summers in Galveston… Pirates Beach/ Surfside… had a church member with a 24’ sailboat out of Galveston Yacht Club who let me use it while in HS….met a guy who was cpt. of the Bear (resupplied Perry on polar expeditions who reached Galveston in his boat .. had cataracts so I drove him around for appts. Sitting on the stern on his boat (no fridge) evenings drinking hot whiskey, wind in the shrouds…. No better place!
